I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don’t know where it goes
But it’s home to me, and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I’m the only one, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk a-
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aaah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
I’m walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the borderline
Of the edge, and where I walk alone
Read between the lines
What’s fucked up, and everything’s alright
Check my vital signs
To know I’m still alive, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk a-
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aaah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah
I walk alone, I walk a-
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I’m the only one, and I walk a-
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

COMMENTS ON PREVIOUS SELECTION – “Chained to the Rhythm”

“Chained to the Rhythm” reflects upon the shallowness of popular values in our affluent society.  We think we have it good, able to get anything we want, and apparently free to follow a wide variety of paths to the ‘good life’; yet, it does not fulfil.  In fact, we are not free at all, but chained to the rhythm of the life that is set out by advertising gurus working for big business. We are so caught up in it that there is no time for the things that matters: the things that lead to real life. As Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount:

“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy[ that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Mt. 7:14-24)
