“What the World Needs Now Is Love” by Burt Bacharach
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No not just for some but for everyone.
Lord, we don’t need another mountain,
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross,
Enough to last till the end of time.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No, not just for some but for everyone.
Lord, we don’t need another meadow
There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh listen, lord, if you want to know.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love,
No, not just for some but for everyone.
No, not just for some, oh, but just for everyone.

COMMENTS ON PREVIOUS SELECTION – “End of the Line”
This would be a song Jesus could use to sooth people’s anxiety in the face of some of his other ‘heavier’ lessons. Sure there is personal responsibility for the Kingdom of God and a demand to care for the ‘other’, but along the way, go easy on yourself; it will be all right. Look at the lilies of the field and the birds of the air; we’re going to the end of the line together.
