Walk along the river, sweet lullaby,
it just keeps on flowing,
Don’t fly, mister blue bird,
I’m just walking down the road,
Early morning sunshine
tell me all I need to know
You’re my blue sky, you’re my sunny day.
Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way,
Turn your love my way, yeah.
Good old Sunday morning, bells are ringing everywhere.
Goin’ to Carolina, it won’t be long and I’ll be there
You’re my blue sky, you’re my sunny day
Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way,
Turn your love my way, yeah, yeah

COMMENTS ON PREVIOUS SELECTION – “Both Sides Now”

The philosophical Jesus would sing this song, knowing that our perceptions are filtered and shaped by our minds.  If we are honest, it is necessary to admit that, no matter how certain we are of the nature of reality, it is possible we have only a partial picture. As St. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13: 9-12,

For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

In the meantime, we must walk humbly, acknowledging that our knowledge is ever only partial, and that  another person may actually see truths that we cannot. In the gap where our ignorance is ready to trip us up, we rely on faith.
