“Spirits In The Material World” by The Police
There is no political solution
To our troubled evolution
Have no faith in constitution
There is no bloody revolution
We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Our so-called leaders speak
With words they try to jail you
They subjugate the meek
But it’s the rhetoric of failure
We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Where does the answer lie?
Living from day to day
If it’s something we can’t buy
There must be another way
We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

COMMENTS ON PREVIOUS SELECTION – “Little Wonders”
Our lives really are constructed in “these small hours,” in which we tune in to all the “little wonders” around us. We are the accumulation of our experiences over a lifetime, and to be present to them and appreciate them is one of the secrets to realising the magnificence of the gift of life that we are given. The message contained in these lyrics is similar to that of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”(no. 20): the proper response to life, with all its ups and downs, is praise.
